The Victorian Concert Orchestra

   - Uplifting the Spirits of Rural Victoria since 1926

In 2016, the Victorian Concert Orchestra will be celebrating 90 years of service to the people of rural Victoria

Happy 90th Birthday, Victorian Concert Orchestra!!!

Who we are

The Victorian Concert Orchestra (VCO) is Australia's longest standing, touring orchestra. Our reach is indiscriminate, through all demographics, all the way to our borders. The orchestra, originally setup by the Victorian Government in 1926 to service rural Victoria, expanded over time to become an independent not-for-profit organisation, whose aims and objectives remain unchanged.

That is...To provide high quality, entertaining, free concerts to all Victorians and through tailored programming, which has broad popular appeal, make music accessible to include also those who would not normally attend a live symphonic concert.

What we do

As Victoria's leading concert orchestra, the VCO travels to all places around Victoria, including the larger regional centres and the smaller rural communities, providing opportunities for all Victorians to attend live concerts for free and experience the wonderful power of a full symphony orchestra playing their great favourites, from all genre, including the popular classics, film scores, musical theatre, popular song etc, sourced from our wonderfully extensive music library.

And why we are unique

- The VCO is Australia's longest standing, touring orchestra, celebrating it's 90th Birthday in 2016

- The VCO provides carefully tailored programs for it's audiences so they have the broadest popular appeal

- The VCO concert performances includes collaborating with 2 highly experienced and entertaining singers, soprano Veronica Iredale and baritone Stephen Coutts

- With the amazing conductor and Master of Ceremony, Gerald Keuneman OAM, the VCO has a legacy of a unique and strong bond with it's audiences through it's interactive presentation and  incomparable warmth of sound, only achievable through the experience of it's longer term members, with over half the musicians in the orchestra being members up to a period of more than 40 years

- This 50 piece orchestra comprises musicians who have a wealth of experience and currently work alongside and foster the younger talent. This unique blend of members creates a supportive learning environment for those developing experience in interpretive style in such a wide and diverse range of music . Today's youth are tomorrow's leaders

- Through touring, the VCO provides opportunities especially for smaller communities, to stay connected to the arts, without having to travel great distances or spend much money to attend live concerts

- We provide free concerts

- The VCO performs in all Victorian communities, large, small, rural and metropolitan

- The VCO provides a rare opportunity for local school students to engage in performance with a full symphony orchestra and it's singers

Our Mission

To uplift the spirits of all Victorians

Vision & Objective

The VCO recognises the value of it's service that it is able to provide to the Victorian community and as such is looking to secure and strengthen it's establishment to guarantee it's ability to take this service into the long term future. The VCO will work with it's stakeholders to provide future generations of young Victorians to both give and receive the opportunities this service provides. There is no price to the enriching nature of the arts, especially the live performing arts with the power of all, through music, to our lives
